"Cradle to Cradle" is inspired by the natural approach where there are no problems with "waste" as "waste" always means "food" for the next member of a cycle. A distinction is made between the biological and the technical cycle. Biologically recyclable textiles (or products in general) are 100% biodegradable. For technical cycles, the products can be broken down into its component parts in a few easy steps, which in turn serve as raw materials for new products.

The Cradle to Cradle design concept was established jointly by chemist and process engineer Prof. Michael Braungart and architect William McDonough.

Since 1995, Johann Müller AG has dyed yarns and jersey for products that are built under consideration of the Cradle to Cradle principle.
